MSRB withdraws proposed rules on workplace 529 sales

At the request of the SEC, the Municipal Securities Rulemaking Board (MSRB) has withdrawn a proposed rule change first released on April 29, 2003 concerning the sale of 529 plans in the workplace. Since the release, the SEC has proposed new confirmation and point-of-sale disclosures covering 529 plans, the states have approved draft voluntary disclosure guidelines for 529 plans, and U.S. Representative Michael G. Oxley has requested regulatory recommendations from the SEC Chairman's Task Force on College Savings Plans. The MSRB will determine at a later date whether to republish a revised version.
