Policy group selects Oklahoma 529 for its $2 million infusion

The Center for Social Development has selected Oklahoma as its SEED Universal Model state.A Request for Proposal was released to states on April 26, 2005, and state proposals were due June 21, 2005.

The Universal Model will use the Oklahoma College Savings Plan as a structure to test this policy initiative.Oklahoma will benefit from participation in the Universal Model through deposits of up to $2 million into state-resident 529 savings plan accounts and research identifying facilitators and barriers to saving in the state’s 529 savings plan.The initiative will be used to inform policy development related to 529 savings plans and children’s savings accounts.

Direct support for the Universal Model in SEED comes from the Ford Foundation, Charles Stewart Mott Foundation, and MetLife Foundation.Other funders of SEED include the Charles and Helen Schwab Foundation, Jim Casey Youth Opportunity Initiative, Citigroup Foundation, Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation, Richard and Rhoda Goldman Fund, Evelyn and Walter Haas, Jr. Fund, and the Edwin Gould Foundation for Children.
