529 savings assets top $77 billion at June 2006

Assets in 529 savings plans stood at an estimated $77.3 billion at June 30, 2006, according to the College Savings Foundation and Financial Research Corporation, a 31% increase over June 30, 2005 assets of $59 billion. The second quarter 2006 increase was $2.2 billion, which reflects net sales of $2.9 billion.

Members of the College Savings Foundation reported 69.5% of their 529 assets in age-based portfolios and 24.3% in static portfolios.
