House approves extension of Higher Education Act
The U.S. House of Representatives has approved a bill extending the Higher Education Act to June 30, 2007. The Act had been scheduled to expire on September 30, 2006. The extension bill (HR 6138) is being sent to President Bush for signature.
The House had previously passed a bill (HR 609) to reauthorize the Higher Education Act with changes, but the Senate has not yet passed its reauthorization bill (S 1614).
