Hartford survey suggests advisers become proactive

A new survey by Hartford Financial Services Group suggests that financial advisers should become more proactive in bringing up the subject of college savings and 529 plans with their clients. The survey found that parents and grandparents most often initiated the discussion of 529 plans with their financial advisers, not the other way around. Of those who discussed 529 plans with their advisers, 90 percent reported opening a 529 account.
